Description
The Lonesome Unicorn is a story about hope, equity, and friendship. It celebrates the idea of choosing to believe that everyone is valuable, and lays a positive foundation for a stronger learning community in which everyone can speak, be heard, and solve conflicts respectfully. Author’s Note: I am an early childhood educator, avid pool player, and author. I believe in living a positive life through making connections with people and wholeheartedly support the growth mindset philosophy. I advocate for social justice, social emotional learning, and equitable education for all. This book’s content evolved from my work with children with diverse needs, and from conversations with my closest friends about life, loyalty, and community. It was written while I was quarantining during the global pandemic. I came to realize our hierarchical educational system can label students, stigmatize differences in learning, and neglect social education. So many children struggle with communication, empathy, and conflict resolution. We must prioritize teaching children positive thinking skills and effective communication.
